New lesson #6 (Introducing people #5 - At a party)

1. SHORT QUESTIONS
When you ask a question and the other person knows what it's about, a shortened form is often used (with rising intonation, because you don't add 'ka' anymore and they do need to know that you're asking instead of stating something):
O-namae wa (nan desu ka).
(What is) your name?
O-kuni wa (dochira desu ka).
(Where is) your country?
Go-senmon wa (nan desu ka).
(What is) your field of study?

2. HOW TO END A CONVERSATION
Dewa mata
See you later

Ja mata
See you later (less formal)

Mata ashita
See you tomorrow

Sayonara/Sayounara
Good-bye

Shitsurei shimasu
I am going to leave. (very formal)
This one is also used when:
- entering a house or room (as in: 'Ecxuse me for intruding.')
- passing in front of someone
- leaving in the middle of a gathering

When you know that you'll see a person again soon, you use expressions like: 'ja mata' or 'mata ashita', instead of 'sayonara'.
